The sum insured should equal the new value of your entire household. There are two methods:
Flat-rate method (recommended)
The sum insured is calculated based on living space:
Living space (m²) × €650 = sum insured
Example: 80 m² × €650 = €52,000 sum insured
Individual valuation
You estimate the value of each item. This method is more accurate but tedious.
Tip: Choose the flat-rate method – it's simpler and protects against under-insurance.
Bicycle theft (outside the home)
Standard tariffs only cover bikes in the home. With this add-on, also insured on the street.
Natural hazards
Coverage against flooding, earthquakes, landslides and snow pressure.
Glass breakage
Covers damage to glass panes, ceramic hobs, aquariums and mirrors.
Gross negligence
Modern tariffs waive the gross negligence objection.
New value compensation: Make sure the insurance replaces at new value, not current value.
Avoid under-insurance: If your sum insured is too low, the insurance pays only proportionally in case of damage.
External insurance: Your contents are also insured outside the home – usually up to 10% of the sum insured.
Deductible: A deductible reduces the premium.
Document valuables: Photograph valuable items and keep purchase receipts.
Reporting obligation: When moving or expanding, you must inform the insurance.
